Love is Taking Care of Yourself

The health of individuals can affect the health of their relationships, so we owe it to those around us to take good care of ourselves, physically and emotionally, so that we don’t take out our ill-health on those around us.  That includes learning how to cope with frustrations and disappointments, handle crises, and being optimistic. It also includes taking care of ourselves physically.  If we let ourselves go, we naturally do not feel good, physically or emotionally, and cannot do what we need to do to take care of those around us, or ourselves.  Neglecting basic personal hygiene can cause our loved ones embarrassment or a desire to distance themselves from us.  If you find yourself or a loved one slipping in any of these ways, it could even indicate depression or even dementia.  Otherwise, take good care of yourself, for the sake of your loved ones, and encourage them in their desires to take care of themselves.  It is another way to say, “I love you.”
